On-the-go editing apps provide a convenient and easy way to play with photos on our iPhones. Here are a few of the best and most interesting applications.

Photo Mess from KenLeeWrites

A corkboard provides the backdrop to this fun and easy to use app. You simply select images from your library on your phone, or simply take a series of photos using your phone’s camera. The images are displayed on the screen and you can flip, rotate and play with the size of the images. You also have the option to log in to an application called Steply, which allows you to exchange photos and add even more photos to your corkboard design.

The app is ever so simple to use and that’s really all there is to it! Great for making quick collages to show your friends or upload online. The traditional corkboard design is a quirky feature and looks great when your favourite images are loaded on top of it.

PhotoCollage from Lancho Software

This is another app for placing all your favourite images on one screen and editing them in size and the overall layout. You can choose from circular or squared photos and once again can save the finished collage, but there isn’t an option to share the photos on this app. It would be great to have some options for backgrounds on this app, which I suspect are available on the full paid version, but for free, this app is great for on-the-go collages.

Pic Collage from Cardinal Blue

This is by far the most advanced collage app of the three, with the ability to add a background, add stickers and text. You can choose where to get your images; from your phone’s library, through taking a picture on the phone’s camera, through Facebook or from another place on the web. The app is well designed and easy to use and there is even a quirky feature which lets you turn your collage into a postcard, which you can post (for a charge) to a friend. You can save your finished image to your phone’s library, which is great as some apps come with the catch that if you want to save directly you have to upgrade to the full version and pay.

All apps featured are free, with full versions also available at a cost. Each app is an easy option for creating collages without having to use a computer.
